Mike's Integra

..: Exhaust

Sometimes, I really miss Violet. That's the name of my '98 Integra GS-R. I bought it at a time when driving fast and far was instrumental in my sanity. The best part was that I walked onto the lot of the Acura dealer having no more than a total of 30 minutes of experience on the dangerous end of a manual transmission. And the dealer, he was fool enough to let me test drive it. And I bought it from him that day. Stalled twice on the short trip home. That's what I did for a half year after I bought Violet -- drove and drove. Concentrate. First gear, second gear, downshift, upshift. Concentrate on the driving, and not on my life, or the painful things that happened in 1998.

After its purpose had been served, Violet was traded in for a Nissan Xterra. Things have never been the same since.

In the week before I traded the car in, I removed all of the aftermarket accessories and performance parts I had installed. I removed lowering springs, aftermarket rims and tires, stereo equipment, and biggest of all -- a catback exhaust system. This is a 3-piece exhaust with piping that runs from the catalytic converter all the way to the tip of the muffler. The box was as big as a coffin. I sold the thing on eBay for over $300. Shipped out to Mike for $42. We've sort of kept in touch in the year since I sold it to him. Today, Mike sent me a picture of his Integra, with the exhaust installed on it. The picture above is that picture.

Can't really see the exhaust, right? Oh well. So strange to see it there. Like I've given up a kidney or something, and it's been installed into another person. Ah, but that's the kind of thinking that prompted me to sell Violet in the first place.
